Mimili Maku Arts

Amy Yilpi (*1967) is a Yankunytjatjara and Pitjantjatjara artist with family connections to Yalata, Antara and Warakurna. She paints the Maku (witchetty grub) Songline connected to her father’s Country around Mimili, using circular forms to represent maku and the roots of the maku tree (acacia kampeana) places where they are gathered. Amy learned from her mother and sister and also works with tjanpi weaving. Her paintings express pride in her family, Country and the ongoing cultural knowledge carried through the Maku (witchetty grub) storylines.
