Kokoberrin

Dorothy is a skilled Kokoberrin artist from the western Cape York Peninsula in Queensland. Her ancestral lands, known as Pinnarinch, stretch from Mudpalangen to the mouth of the Staaten River, including the Barku, Nassau, and Lynd River regions along the central west coast of Cape York Peninsula. This remote and beautiful region is rich with important clan story sites and cultural history.

From a young age, Dorothy developed a strong passion for art, later inspiring the same love of creativity in her children and grandchildren. Her vibrant artworks reflect both traditional and contemporary life in North Queensland, often portraying bush tucker gathering, life on Country, and everyday cultural experiences.

Dorothy’s deep connection to culture and storytelling is central to her practice. In 2012, she received the prestigious Laura Art Award for her acclaimed artwork Waterloo. Through her ongoing artistic practice, Dorothy continues to share stories and celebrate the strength and beauty of her culture.
