Dorothy Pula Jones

Utopia Art Centre

Dorothy Pula Jones was born at Macdonald Downs Station, along with her sisters and other members of her family. She moved to Arawerr when she was a young girl, where she learnt traditional ways.
Dorothy shares the Bush Medicine story through the exploration of detailed painting techniques, sharing the vast array of Bush Medicine that grows on her homeland. Through intergenerational learning, Dorothy learnt how to collect and prepare Bush Medicine, learning techniques from her mother and grandmother. Still practicing natural medicine, today.
“I am painting Bush Medicine story. When I was little, I collected bush medicine with my grandmother and mother. Long time ago. Macdonald Downs Station was where I was born. I have been living in Arawerr since I was a little girl. With my family. My mother and grandmother taught me how to collect bush medicine. Ones for drinking and rubbing on your skin. Helping your outsides and insides. We making it at home. Bush Medicine is our painting story”.
