Imran Peddy

Born in Kununurra and raised in Warmun, emerging artist Imran Peddy comes from a strong artistic and cultural family lineage. His grandparents, renowned Warmun artists Patrick Mung and Betty Carrington (RIP), played an important role in shaping his connection to Country, culture, and storytelling. Growing up, Imran spent time out on Country learning about the land, the people who walked before him, plants and animals, and traditional bush medicine, while also watching his grandparents paint and share their knowledge.

Imran is a graduate student who worked as a ranger for five and a half years, caring for and protecting Country, before spending two years working within the mining industry. These experiences gave him a unique and confronting perspective on the impact mining has on the land and environment.

After recently returning home to Warmun, Imran began painting at the end of 2025. Through his artwork, he is passionate about raising awareness of the damage he has witnessed firsthand and sharing the stories of Country, its strength, and its vulnerability. Painting has become a powerful way for him to express lived experience and speak truth about the effects mining has on Country and community.
