LAZARUS JOHNSON

Warmun Art Centre

Lazarus Johnson carries a proud Gija lineage as the youngest son of renowned Warmun artists Jane Yalunga and Jimbo Johnson (RIP). His grandfather is the legendary Rover Thomas, whose groundbreaking vision helped bring East Kimberley painting and Joonba to the world, and his grandmother is respected artist Rita Tinmarie.

Growing up surrounded by art and culture, Lazarus was immersed in stories, songlines, and painting from an early age. Alongside his three brothers; Dillon, Corey, and Codie, and his sister, Coralee, he has inherited a deep connection to Country and to the creative traditions of his family.

As an emerging cultural leader & artist, Lazarus is building on this powerful legacy while developing his own voice and style. His work reflects both the strength of his ancestors and the vitality of a new generation of young leadership and Gija artists, ensuring that culture and stories continue to be shared with pride and inspiration.
