Lisa Mpetyan Cooke

Inkwareny Artists

Lisa is an Anmatyerr artist from Yuelamu in the Northern Territory, Australia. She grew up watching her father, a well-known painter, work on his art. Lisa has an adult son and looks after three nephews and two nieces. She comes into the art studio every day, working to establish the newly formed Inkwareny Artists of Yuelamu. The Anmatyerr people’s vision is to have their own art studio and gallery that will strengthen and share their culture.

Lisa’s painting style is a little bit magical, coming from very good knowledge of country and hunting. She is inspired by the Anmatyerr Country’s plants and animals. Lisa paints Ankerr Anengkerr (Emu Dreaming), Artew Anengkerr (Bush Turkey Dreaming), Kwaty Anengkerr (Water Dreaming) and Anek Anengkerr (Bush Potato Dreaming).
