Michael Budbaria - Mung Mung

Michael Budbarria-Mung is a talented emerging Gija artist from Warmun Art Centre who began painting in April 2025. Coming from a strong lineage of celebrated Warmun artists, he is the third generation of an important cultural and artistic family, following in the footsteps of renowned artist George Mung Mung and senior Gija Elder Patrick Mung.

Deeply connected to Country, culture, and community, Michael is not only an emerging painter but also an important cultural leader within Warmun. As the Warmun Art Centre Senior Cultural Liaison Officer, he plays a vital role in supporting cultural knowledge, community engagement, and the continuation of Gija traditions for future generations.

Through his paintings, Michael carries forward the stories, identity, and strength of his ancestors while developing his own artistic voice. His work reflects a deep respect for Country and the enduring cultural knowledge passed down through generations.
