Sandra Ase

Taepathiggi

Sandra is a proud member of the Taepathiggi clan, with strong connections to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. Born in Townsville, she draws inspiration from her heritage, traditions, and the stories of her people. Her sacred totem, the crocodile, symbolises strength, protection, and a deep connection to her ancestors and Country.

After the loss of her mother, Sandra turned to art as a way to heal and honour her cultural roots. Through vibrant colours and storytelling, her paintings reflect the spirit of the Mapoon people, their connection to the land, sacred places, and community life.
Her artworks often feature traditional totems that connect her people to their ancestors and guide future generations. Sandra believes art is a powerful way to preserve culture, share knowledge, and keep traditions alive.
Through her work, she hopes to inspire others to learn about and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage. Her paintings are more than visual art — they are stories of identity, culture, and connection to Country.
