Zachary Stack

Zachary was born in 1991 in Perth Western Australia. He is the son of artist Gerard Stack a Gija man from Northam and the grandson of Valerie a Yamatji woman from Perth. Zac vividly remembers crushing ochre with his father and watching him paint as a child and he is deeply connected to both Gija and Yamatji country.

His interest in art making has stemmed from his connection to culture and the stories that have been passed down throughout his family. Since moving to Warmun in August 2025, Zac has explored a range of mediums, predominately painting and woodworking using both ochre and acrylic paint in his practise. He has also expressed an interest towards experimenting with printmaking and new mediums in the future.

Zac’s background working as a heavily diesel mechanic, has allowed him to apply his craftsmanship and skills into new art forms, where his ability to weld and his knowledge of materials has helped him to create art, and upkeep areas of the art centre.

His art explores his ancestry and the truths from within his family’s stories that he carries into his work.
